Why Meta Desciptions are still important in SEO

by admin on Jan.08, 2010, under SEO

Meta tags, the little descriptions in your website code that look like this: are still an important SEO factor. They were ditched by the big G and Yahoo, deemed as useless in ranking terms. Now with the introduction of personalised searchs with Google the meta description is now a factor to be taken seriously again.

Although Meta descriptions are no longer part of the ranking algorithm a good description is a critical factor that determines the CTR (click-through-rate) of your site in search results. The more compelling and inviting the meta description is, the more likely searchers will click it. When users click through to your site from search results this is recorded in their Web History. Next time they search for a product or service related to your site, it may appear higher up in their personalised search results.

Since everyone now gets personalised results whether logged into a Google account or not, the scope of the effect your Meta descriptions could have on your rankings can be significant. That’s another reason why you should invest some time into testing and optimising your Meta descriptions.

The main thing is to keep the meta descriptions keyword rich but in a structure that will induce the prefered user response (a click).

Classifieds website purely for Perth and surrounding area.

by admin on Jan.06, 2010, under Perth

For a while now Ive been a bit annoyed at bigger classifieds websites for leaving out Perth and surrounding towns and villages. There are of course some who list these areas but dont provide a local feel with community attached etc!

So Perthshire Classifieds was born from this annoyance and now Perth Town and County has a place to build an excellent online/local community where Perthshire residents and buy and sell locally, interact with each other and even do some dating. All for FREE. Yup its completely free to post an add (and you dont even have to register).

Hopefully Perth and Kinross’ians get behind this website and really make it a great place to trade, date and keep in touch with whats going on in the county.

So check it out now and post an ad for free: Perthshire Classifieds

Increase your organic search position and pagerank

by admin on Jan.06, 2010, under SEO, Web Design

I have been investigating a particular area of SEO which will increase your search engine listings and increase your pagerank, in some cases quite dramatically.

Whats the big secret I here you ask….well you’ll be disappointed….its TRAFFIC. Particularly traffic coming from Google will get you higher placement in Google and increased Pagerank. Get Google traffic and as a gift they will reward you with more Google traffic.

So how do we achieve this extra traffic through Google. Well using the usual SEO techniques is a great start but I also found that taking out an Adwords campaign for a website, increased its traffic and also improved my organic lsiting for the keywords I was bidding for in my Adwords campaign. I suppose some would call this an conflict of interest and maybe a bit dodgy of Google but if the Search algorithm works on equations that include how much traffic a website gets then this will obviously affect it.

Anyway I just thought I would share these observations and point out how important it is to optimise your website!

Perth town centre going downhill?

by admin on Oct.06, 2009, under Perth

Well I think it is apparent to everyone that the centre of Perth is not what it used to be with multiple shop sites lying empty and in bad condition.

The recent economic downturn hasnt just seen the demise of big businesses like Woolworths from Perth town centre but various small outlets have been forced to close too. These small quirky shops are what make town centres interesting and more attractive to shoppers. Perth is being taken over by the big chain stores, limiting our choice and creating a boring, sterile buinsess environment. This in turn creates less tourism and local trade.

In general Perth town centre feels like a business graveyard and is a poor shopping destination for spendthrifts and frugle shoppers alike. With this in mind I think more and more Perth residents will be looking online to purchase their goods, so if you have a business in Perth or a re looking to start one, please consider an ecommerce website allowing you to sell your products online.

People do shop locally online. Dont miss out on your local trade and expand your customer base UK wide! Especially with Christmas coming up.

Our prices start from £695 for ecommerce websites.
